As many of you will know most of my blogs are written about normal everyday experiences and observations. This includes writing about friends, family or clients who inspire me.
With this in mind, I felt compelled to write this blog about a dear friend of mine who is currently putting her life on the line, as are so many!
She works on the front line in a local hospital and as well as working very hard she somehow manages to always put a smile on her face and always has time for patients. She says, “I want to treat them as I would want to be treated”. Her attitude to her work doesn’t surprise me as she is a very caring person as well as being non-judgemental hence, our connection.
She is inspirational anyway, however, her attitude in this current climate is ‘something else’! She goes in everyday with a smile and more importantly a selfless determination to ‘get the job done’. She works with the most vulnerable patients and is coming into contact on a very regular basis with this horrid virus. Never, does she complain about this situation, she just simply goes about her work with even more diligence and determination.
I find this resilience and stoic example to be humbling, she really is a hero along with her fellow colleagues who literally put their lives on the line daily. Often, having the minimum of PPE and resources.
When I find myself getting frustrated over not being able to get an online shopping slot or am having to use washing up liquid instead of soap to wash my hands, I think of her and remind myself these things have no importance what so ever.
She would find me remiss, if I also didn’t mention all the front-line workers who are also facing the public in their work, she feels, they too are heroes.
When I asked her if I could write this her immediate reaction was “Oh don’t, I’m nothing special.”
Well, I am here to tell you and her that she is! Very special indeed.
