Are you lost without Wi-Fi?
I had a conversation with someone the other day who shocked me when they said, that they had been bored during their lunch break as they didn’t have internet access and therefore use of their phone to browse the internet. I found myself raising my eyebrows and wanting to tut tut thinking, “fancy not being able to do without the internet for half an hour”!
However, it occurred to me last night that I am guilty of the same as, my partner left the room leaving me with a paused film……what did I do? Reached for my phone, only to find it was on charge upstairs, to my surprise I found myself disappointed and frustrated, almost twiddling my thumbs. It then dawned on me that I am guilty of doing exactly the same as the person I had spoken to only days before!
I don’t want to give the impression that I am judging anyone for browsing on their phone as it’s an amazing facility to have, the point I am making is that I have almost stopped THINKING and instead get someone else to think for me!
Do I need to be entertained all the time? I used to be able to sit and think yes, only think and observe what is around me. Instead now seemingly, I reach for my phone. It used to be that I would use such opportunities to think about all sorts of things. Maybe ‘mind talk’ through an issue or even ask “what can we have for dinner?”
My challenge is to try to reduce the urge to entertain myself with social media and internet browsing and instead take in my surroundings, my thoughts and my feelings……..
How about you?
