In speaking to a number of clients recently, it’s become apparent that an awful lot of people are in a real dilemma about the up and coming election. It’s actually causing a lot of anxiety for people and as we see in the press everyday, it’s certainly causing business and commerce a great deal of concern. Redundancies are widespread and so too, is concern for what the future holds.
This understandably has a knock on effect, and for us minions at the bottom on the heap this can cause anx and stress. This, coupled with Christmas stress, can leave us feeling low in energy and mood!
So, what can we do? Well, for most of us I guess that we largely feel out of control? I certainly feel that way about the political climate we find ourselves in, and I know some of my clients do too.
I suppose the question we need to ask is: What can we control? The answer to this of course, is that for most of us we actually have the right to vote. My advice would be to do as much reading as possible around who and what to vote for, this helps us to feel informed, therefore more in control. My mother used to say to me “fore armed is fore warned”, fitting in this situation I feel!
All we can actually do is vote for the best candidate out of the pool we have! I hear many people say, “I don’t like any of them”, most of us are in that boat too, but surely it’s best to make a decision on someone rather than no one? This is a personal thing of course, I would never tell anyone they have to vote or have to vote for someone. All, I am simply saying, is that most of us will feel more in control and have a certain level of satisfaction if we feel included in making a decision. It’s not ideal we know, but such is life and more importantly such is history.
These are unprecedented times my friends………….and therefore, we can only do what we think is best given the limited choices we have. So, don’t be too hard on yourself.
Finally, Keep calm it’s only Christmas!!!!
